Thanks for all the positive comments, everyone. It really was a grand night, wasn’t it? The beautiful, tree-lined street of Thistle was the perfect setting for such a rockin’ evening. And Sue, you and the 800 block crew were such gracious hosts. We really appreciate how cool everyone was with it.

Thanks for asking about the winner! Let’s give those artists the proper credit, shall we? Here’s a list of the hole names and the masterminds behind them:

1) FoosBarbie: Meredith Hall, Nathan James, Bob Anderton and Wendy Woldenberg

2) Urban Jungle: Elizabeth Knopf and Bird….(I’m sorry, Bird. You’re legendary-- I only know you as Bird!)

3) Helvi’s Penalty Kick: Nils Christian

4) The Catapult: Rusty Oliver

5) Skee-Ball: Shaney Clemmons and Pam Ruggles

6) Foggy Mountain Breakdown: Alma Rettinger and Brian Kennedy

7) Ole Duwamish: Nicole Kistler

8 ) The 8 Ball: Tim Cross and Whiting Tennis

9) Chicken Butt Putt Putt: Michelle Gregory Van Dyke

10) Indiana Jones: Rusty Oliver

I’m sure it was tough to cast that ballot considering the full-on awesomeness of the entries, but…the winner is: Urban Jungle by Elizabeth and Bird! The details were just amazing, you two. And just to add another layer of awesomeness, Elizabeth and Bird pulled it all together at the last minute. They took over a hole, came up with the idea just days before the event AND built that magnificent piece on a houseboat. Seriously. So what was the prize, you ask? A one-of-a-kind South Park Putts Out belt buckle, crafted by the uber-talented Wendy Woldenberg! (I’m quite jealous.)

There are tons of people to thank for pitching in and making it happen. My SPArts gang, you know who you are. Thanks for all your resourcefulness and selflessness. You give so much with zero pay and always make it fun.

I must give a GIANT shout out to Matthew Roberson for making the day go as well as it did. You would not buh-lieve what all he did on Tuesday, all the while being his good-natured, cool as a cucumber self. Matthew and his teens from the Community Center mowed, raked and bagged the parking strips in the morning, moved tables and chairs, bought all the food, cooked and served all the food, and then broke it all down that night! The staff at the Community Center deserve big props. Thank you, thank you, Matthew and company.

Also, thanks to Brian, Ivan, Liz and David. I swear I wore socks, but the Brian Marshall Band seems to have rocked them clean off. Thanks for bringin’ it, my chums.

And thank you South Park for coming out in force. You are what make this neighborhood so ding-dang special. Let’s do that more often!

Hello,
My name is Michael Stevenson and I am participating in a permaculture design course that's being run through Seattle Tilth. As a course project, a group of us are working on designing a system for improved access to food in South Park. We're trying to link up needs (both of South Park residents and of organizations doing food-related work) with resources available within the community. We wanted to get in touch with the South Park Business Association as a resource of the community to gain a better understanding of the local businesses dealing with food production/distribution and nutrition in the area and to solicit feedback on the food related needs and resources of the community. We're working on pulling together a group of people / organizations working on this issue for a brief meeting to discuss how helpful connections can be made. Would you be interested in being part of this meeting? Is there anyone else who you think we should be inviting? If you're not able to be at the meeting, would you have a few minutes over the next week to chat with me about needs and resources that you're aware of related to this issue?

If you are interested in the meeting, I've included a link to a "doodle poll" to get your availability. We're looking to schedule this meeting in two weeks (the week of Aug 16-20). If you can respond to the poll by noon tomorrow (sorry about the short notice), we'll send out a meeting time by the end of the day

Here's the link: http://doodle.com/dkag66seednw5zhx.

Thank you,
Michael Stevenson

How do i get to South Park now that the bridge is shut down? You should have directions posted for people like me who are challenged when it comes to a sense of direction.
thank you.
