Your first chance to support your South Park neighborhood non-profit SPARC during our first fund-raiser is GiveBig Day, Wednesday, May 2.

  • How does GiveBIG work?
    All donations made to SPARC through The Seattle Foundation’s website on GiveBIG day will receive a pro-rated portion of a $500,000 matching funds (or “stretch”) pool. The amount of the “stretch” depends on how much is raised in total donations on GiveBIG day. For example, if SPARC receives 1 percent of the total donations during GiveBIG, then we will receive 1 percent of the stretch pool. Last year, a $10 donation resulted in $11.40. We won’t know how much gifts will be “stretched” this year because it depends on the total raised.
  • When is GiveBIG?
    GiveBIG will take place on Wednesday, May 2, 2012 from midnight to midnight, Pacific Time. » keep reading »

Easter Egg Hunt – Union Gospel Mission

The Union Gospel Mission (UGM) is sponsoring an Easter Egg hunt and dinner tomorrow, Easter Sunday, April 8th. Please join them for fun and food!

When: April 8, 3:00 PM, Egg hunt, followed by Dinner from 4 pm – 5:30 pm.
Where: South Park Community Center, 8319 8th Ave S Seattle WA 98108

Activities include Karaoke, Pinatas, Bingo, and lots of community building!

DIESEL PRIORITIZATION MEETING/HEALTH FAIR AND ONLINE SURVEY

The DEEDS Project looking at diesel exhaust concentrations in South Park and Georgetown would like to invite you all to our Diesel Prioritization Meeting/Health Fair next Thursday, April 12 at the South Park Community Center, located at 8319 8th Ave, starting at 6:00 pm.

At this meeting we will be asking folks what diesel exhaust sources (trucks, buses, trains) they would like to have monitored as well as what neighborhood locations (streets, residential areas, playfields). We will also be asking folks what they would like the air quality measuring results to be compared to (other Seattle neighborhoods, other cities, national standards) and what changes they would like to ask for with the data results.

  • Can you help your neighbors out one evening a week, for 10 weeks?

If so, we are looking for you!

 *This includes both native English speakers, and people with great English who learned it as a second language (especially if you can remember learning it). Both of these backgrounds are assets in the classroom.

Connected Communities Begin with Places to Go by Foot

Seattle- Feet First is asking for the community input for the first Neighborhoods on Foot Walking Map of South Park. Community members will be asked to share where they walk in South Park, what route they take to get to school, parks, stores and friends’ homes and what are community features in the neighborhood.

The map will be completed by June 2012. Funding is provided by Washington State Department of Transportation in conjunction with a Safe Routes to School grant for Concord Elementary School.
