Your opinion is needed for South Park!

August 4th, 2011

Your opinion is needed! In 2006, community residents, business leaders, community organizations and youth came together again to address critical issues. The South Park Action Agenda resulted with five distinct community goals and a detailed list of community priorities to implement.

So much has been accomplished since completion of the South Park Agenda in 2006! The Duwamish Bike Trail was completed, the South Park Community Center experienced many improvements and community and youth programs expanded – to name a few of the dozens of successes.

Where are we headed next? Now, we want your input on where to head next. Many of the community priorities in the Action Agenda still need to be implemented – which ones should we focus on over the next one to five years? And should we tackle additional priorities that were not included in the original Action Agenda?

5 Sections of South Park Community Goals from 2006 Action Agenda:
1. Youth Development
2. Environment and Physical Improvements
3. Community Engagement
4. Business and Transportation
5. Public Safety

South Park Arts Presents, South Park Putts Out 2011!

July 28th, 2011

We’ll close the street and transform it into a mini-golf course! Putt-putt holes will be designed by creative artist teams and built right into the parking strips. So put on some crazy plaid, that goofy hat and come on down to play. We’ll supply the putters, balls and those weird mini-pencils.And get this. Two bands featuring beloved South Park peeps will turn that street into a paharrrrty:

DRUMMERBOY (that’s Jeff Hayes!) with Kimball Conant will rock more than a duo should be allowed to and…
Dubcar (that’s JB Tellez on sax!) will blend up a mix of psycheledic, Jamaican and heckifIknow. Yesss.

This is the way to do Night Out Against Crime, people. Summer nights have been scarce this year. Don’t miss this.

Tuesday, August 2 at 6:00pm
Location: 800 block of S. Thistle Street

South Park Tour – by South Park Arts and King County’s “In Motion” program

July 7th, 2011

let’s get out in force for a stroll or a bike ride around the neighborhood.

It’ll be the perfect excuse to enjoy a summer evening, chat up your neighbors and learn South Park fun facts (a brothel, river restoration, a speakeasy, farming, skating–all that’s in the mix.) Plus you’ll be able to visit the studios of local artists.

Grab a map for a self-led tour or meet up at the Neighborhood Center for a guided bike tour (6:30 or 7:30).

More updates to come, but plan on motivating yourself and others next Wednesday. For more ways to get In Motion, check out the King County program web page, and learn how to reduce single car trips.
